One of the arguments I hear most often against bio One of the arguments I hear most often against bioclimatic architecture is: “but it requires very specialised labour, so it becomes unfeasible.”That bothers me because it generalises too much. Yes, some sustainable systems do require specialisation, just like any more advanced technology. But most bioclimatic strategies don’t.Orienting a project correctly according to the sun? That’s a design decision, not a construction-site issue.
Sizing an overhang to provide shade in summer? Calculation + a conventional carpenter.
Positioning windows for ventilation? Traditional execution, just with a different logic.The confusion happens because we sometimes mix everything together: bioclimatic design + alternative materials + active technologies. Then yes, it gets more complicated. But you can design bioclimatically with brick, concrete, ceramic roof tiles, materials that any builder is familiar with.What it really requires is not expensive labour. It requires a well-thought-out design, clear detailing, and dialogue between the people designing and the people building. Knowledge, not necessarily sophisticated equipment.Of course, more ambitious projects will require specific training. But for most projects, we’re talking about accessible techniques applied with more intelligence.Have you ever faced this issue on site? Natural daylight is one of the most accessible bio Natural daylight is one of the most accessible bioclimatic strategies, but it’s often poorly applied.I’ve seen projects with huge windows that either create so much glare that the space becomes uncomfortable, or heat up so much that no one ever opens the curtains. Other times, I’ve seen dark rooms that could have had natural light with one simple design decision.The secret is not just “adding a window”. It’s understanding where the light comes from, how it enters, and how it is distributed throughout the space. And, most importantly, how to prevent excessive heat or glare from coming in with the light.In this carousel, I shared a few practical examples that I use in projects. Nothing overly complicated — just tested solutions that work when applied properly.What I love about natural daylight is that it solves several things at once: it reduces energy consumption, improves the well-being of the people using the space, and enhances the architecture.
