Bioclimatic Design & Engineering | Just sharing thoughts, insights and the occasional obsession with how buildings and cities interact with climate 🌍

I am a pessimist when it comes to climate change. I am a pessimist when it comes to climate change.I work with climate data enough to know how much has already been lost. So when I find a “hopeful” book on the subject, my instinct is to be sceptical. The Future We Choose, by Christiana Figueres and Tom Rivett-Carnac, surprised me.The book presents two scenarios for the future— one in which we fail to control climate change, one in which we thrive.Simple as that. But each scenario is built on real science, data, studies, and complete references. This is not empty optimism. It is a well-grounded argument that the future is still an open choice, and that the decisions we make now matter.I finished it still a pessimist. But able to see a light at the end of the tunnel that I hadn’t been able to see before.Highly recommended for professionals in the field, for those outside it, for optimists, and especially for fellow pessimists.Full review at the link in bio 👆#climatechange #thefuturewechoose #sustainablearchitecture #bioclimaticdesign #abioclimatica

Ever wondered why some rooms in your home feel lik Ever wondered why some rooms in your home feel like an oven while others stay pleasantly cool? It all comes down to understanding how the sun interacts with our buildings throughout the year! ☀️In this video, I walk you through the process of creating a sun-path analysis using Ladybug Tools in Rhino - one of the most powerful tools in my daily workflow as a Bioclimatic Designer Engineer.Sun-path analysis is absolutely crucial during the early design stages of any project. It helps architects and designers make informed decisions about:🏢 Building orientation🪟 Window placement and sizing🛋️ Room layout and function🌳 Shading strategiesIn warm climates, we often want to minimise direct sunlight to reduce cooling loads, while in cooler regions, maximising solar gain can significantly reduce heating requirements. This analysis helps strike that perfect balance! The best part? When incorporated early in the design process, these considerations can lead to significant energy savings with minimal additional costs.Whether you’re a sustainability professional, architect, or simply curious about creating more comfortable and efficient spaces, I hope this demonstration gives you valuable insights into the world of bioclimatic design.Questions about sun-path analysis or other sustainability tools? Drop them below! ✨#SustainableDesign #BioclimaticEngineering #SunPathAnalysis #GreenBuilding #ArchitecturalDesign #RhinoLadybug #SustainabilityTools
Building a sustainable future starts in our cities Building a sustainable future starts in our cities! From tackling urban heat islands to embracing green solutions, we’re witnessing a powerful transformation in how our urban spaces adapt to climate change. Through smart planning, innovative infrastructure, and united communities, we’re not just creating resilient cities - we’re crafting spaces where both people and planet can thrive for generations to come. Together, we can turn the challenges of climate change into opportunities for positive change!#SustainableCities #ClimateAction #UrbanResilience #GreenFuture #BuildingTomorrow
Hey! Let’s talk about something cool that’s changi Hey! Let’s talk about something cool that’s changing how we design buildings - computational bioclimatic simulations!Think of it as a virtual laboratory where we can test how buildings will perform before they’re even built. Pretty amazing, right? You can use computer programs to analyze things like:
• How sunlight moves through spaces
• How wind flows around buildings
• Whether people will feel comfortable inside or outside
• How much energy the building will useThese simulations are super important because they help us:
• Make better design decisions early on
• Meet strict building regulations
• Achieve green building certifications
• Create more comfortable spaces
• Save energy and resourcesAs a Bioclimatic Engineer, I use these tools every day to ensure our buildings work with nature, not against it! 🌱Want to see more behind-the-scenes of how we create sustainable buildings? Follow along! ✨ #SustainableDesign #Architecture #engineering #bioclimatic #sustainablearchitecture #greenbuilding #bioclimaticdesign #bioclimaticsimulation
